future. Andy shared his insight into tomorrow's SmartCards and their integration with Visitor Management
Systems and his opinion of Radio Frequency Identification

networks vs. installing a separate security network? Andy
covered a number of problems such as those created when
computer patches are "pushed."
Discussions: We
discussed pitfalls
created when we fail to properly plan security
installations, updates, retrofits, and system integrations
and how to handle the conflicting goals of architects,
upper management,
installation personnel, and security professionals.
Discussions: We discussed how to meet
client expectations, avoid misunderstandings,
miscommunications, and long term system failures. Also, how to
coordinate installation schedules and handle system
commissioning.
Discussions: We discussed strategies for
working with company' IT personnel and other stake holders.

that must be given when planning for interfaces with

Many ASIS members also are
members of InfraGard a cooperative undertaking between the
Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and business
associations, local law enforcement, and participants
dedicated to increasing the security of the critical
infrastructures of the United States. As part of our
community outreach/continuing education programs, ASIS 067
set up our booth at the annual joint Illinois, Minnesota,
and Wisconsin InfraGard Conference in Wisconsin Dells.
Pictured left to right are InfraGard board member Ken
Shaurette (Merist Information Security IT Auditor),
Rich Woldt (CEO The Risk Management Learning Center)
shaking hands with InfraGard Board Member Mike Kleckner (American
Family Information Security Advisor), and InfraGard
Board Members Tom Schleppenbach (Security Manager
Jefferson Wells) and Bruce Finn (Federal Deposit
Insurance Corporation - FDIC)! |
 |
| The InfraGard conference affords an
excellent opportunity to cross train public and private CIRT
"Critical Incident Response Teams", formulate regional
"unified" incident commands, and table top test
interoperability before during and after the next crisis
that overwhelms public sector first responders. |
We salute our 2008 - 2009
ASIS 067 Chapter Chair - Lisa Moller (American
Transmission Company - Physical Security Manager) and
Chapter Secretary John Harmon (Security Manager - COVANCE)
setting up our booth Wednesday night. |
 |
| I send a special salute to
Norm Arendt, InfraGard's Board President for his on-going
commitment to forming mission ready public-to-private
partnerships fighting the war on terrorism. His dedication,
focus and professionalism raises the bar in both public and
private sectors.
