Discussions: We discussed problems that occur when we run security systems over our business networks vs. installing a separate security network? Andy covered a number of problems such as those created when computer patches are "pushed."

Discussions: We discussed pitfalls created when we fail to properly plan security installations, updates, retrofits, and system integrations and how to handle the conflicting goals of architects, upper management, installation personnel, and security professionals.

Discussions: We discussed how to meet client expectations, avoid misunderstandings, miscommunications, and long term system failures. Also, how to coordinate installation schedules and handle system commissioning.

Discussions: We discussed strategies for working with company' IT personnel and other stake holders.

Discussions: We discussed considerations that must be given when planning for interfaces with electric door hardware, failsafe power supplies, fire and safety codes.

Discussions: We discussed the benefits of installing and integrating the latest access control operating systems with surveillance systems; specifically the impact on monitoring and alarm response capabilities.

ASIS Chapter 067

Many ASIS members also are members of InfraGard a cooperative undertaking between the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and business associations, local law enforcement, and participants dedicated to increasing the security of the critical infrastructures of the United States. As part of our community outreach/continuing education programs, ASIS 067 set up our booth at the annual joint Illinois, Minnesota, and Wisconsin InfraGard Conference in Wisconsin Dells. Pictured left to right are InfraGard board member Ken Shaurette (Merist Information Security IT Auditor), Rich Woldt (CEO The Risk Management Learning Center) shaking hands with InfraGard Board Member Mike Kleckner (American Family Information Security Advisor), and InfraGard Board Members Tom Schleppenbach (Security Manager Jefferson Wells) and Bruce Finn (Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation - FDIC)!

The InfraGard conference affords an excellent opportunity to cross train public and private CIRT "Critical Incident Response Teams", formulate regional "unified" incident commands, and table top test interoperability before during and after the next crisis that overwhelms public sector first responders. We salute our 2008 - 2009 ASIS 067 Chapter Chair - Lisa Moller (American Transmission Company - Physical Security Manager) and Chapter Secretary John Harmon (Security Manager - COVANCE) setting up our booth Wednesday night.
I send a special salute to Norm Arendt, InfraGard's Board President for his on-going commitment to forming mission ready public-to-private partnerships fighting the war on terrorism. His dedication, focus and professionalism raises the bar in both public and private sectors.

Rich Woldt CEO The Risk Management Learning Center

We also salute our ASIS 067 Chapter Treasure Steve Feiner (Wisconsin Physicians Service WPS Assistant Manager Building Security) for manning our booth Thursday and for pointing new members to our web site....

We also salute the many ASIS Chapter members from around the US who attended the InfraGard Conference this year. Such as Northern Illinois Chapter 147's Ryan Hammer (Senior Security Analyst - Health Care Service Corporation).

ASIS Chapters Joining Forces!

Chapter Focus - Chapter Missions

  • Continuing Education - Private Sector' Safety and Security
  • Homeland Security - Promoting Public-to-Private HLS Partnerships
  • Risk Management - Working together we more effectively identify, measure, and control terrorist, man-made and natural disaster, pandemic, and the "worst-case-scenario" risks that require mass housing-in-place and mass evacuations.
  • Incident Command and Control: There are many crisis management, contingency planning, and disaster recovery systems practiced in the private sector. All respond to the special and unique response and recovery challenges of the industry they serve. In the United States, the Incident Command System (ICS) supported by the National Incident Management System (NIMS) is used to unite the private sector when our community or country stands in harms way.

ASIS Chapter 067 Membership' Benefits?

ASIS International (ASIS), founded in 1955 is now the worlds largest association of security professionals in the world. The ASIS International network of more than 35,000 members worldwide meet regularly at the local, chapter, regional, and national levels to share security best practices, provide industry specific continuing education and risk management training, and promote performance standards for security professionals in both public and private sectors of the society. Members from around the world assemble each year for a truly "international" security conference, while ASIS chapters meet monthly to share best practices, discuss local threat assessments, and review contingency plans before the next worse case scenario places their community in harms way.

Quoting one CEO, "At a time when terrorist are threatening our homeland, natural disasters are wiping out entire communities, and the next pandemics is on its way, it's reassuring to know ASIS Chapter 067 is part of our management team.
